May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Collegiate and professional athletes are experiencing significant pressure and stress to keep up with the demands of their sport and performing at their best day in and day out while also showing up in their other roles and responsibilities.
Let’s continue to normalize therapy and bring awareness to ways athletes can intentionally support their mental health through working with a licensed Sport Psychologist or licensed mental health professional who has education and training around working with athletes and elite performers and understanding of the nuances of sport culture. Having a safe and confidential space to process fears, worries, anxieties, relationship distress, career exploration, their sense of worth and value beyond their identity as an athlete is vital.
The Bridge: Athlete Wellness and Performance is aligned with this mission and supports current and former athletes from a mental health perspective.
To all current and former athletes - know that you matter and you don't have to suffer in silence. You story is valid and real and there are people who can support you.
Asking for help is a sign of strength, not a weakness.
