The Time Is Now: Eating Disorder Awareness Week

This week is Eating Disorder Awareness Week and this year's theme is: "The time is now."

The time is now to support the early detection and appropriate referral for services for athletes struggling with their relationship with food, their body, and/or movement and exercise.

Eating disorders are a mental health disorder that impacts every system of the body and can lead to severe medical complications.

Early intervention is key. Unfortunately many athletes who are struggling do not get the appropriate diagnosis and support they need. In fact, disordered eating behaviors are often reinforced or prescribed within sport culture which puts athletes at greater risk for developing an eating disorder.

Let's not normalize shrinking your body to improve performance. Instead, let's normalize fueling consistently and adequately to meet an athlete's energy needs.
